The author of Just This Night and Break of Day has another hot Exclusive for you.

At News 9 San Diego, relationships don’t get canceled. They just go on hiatus...

After five years of reporting in war-torn Syria, Troy Young has returned to his hometown of San Diego. Readjusting to civilian life is proving difficult. He keeps having panic attacks during live shots. But he’s given one more chance as an entertainment reporter doing a “He Said, She Said” review segment. It’s not what Troy had in mind—especially when he discovers who his new partner is.

Movie-obsessed Sarah Martin loves her gig at News 9...until the man who broke her heart enters the studio. Still, the desire between Sarah and Troy has not subsided even if he did pick his career over her. She doesn’t want to trust him again but they’ll need to overcome their off screen tension if they hope to handle the drama that’s about to unfold...

Marie's Thoughts

Mari Madison writes extremely well. She has a knack for taking character flaws and turning them in to romance magic. In At First Light, she takes Troy, our hero, and his past trauma, and lets him find healing in Sarah, his former flame. It’s a wonderful story that unfolds painfully, yet beautifully, and proves that sometimes all you need is a second chance.

The romance between Troy and Sarah is slow-burning, but is sweet. Sarah is patient with Troy, and their love repairs itself through their work together as journalists. It’s a sweet and extremely fulfilling story that kept me invested and had me cheering them on from the start.

Romance fans will love this charming story by Ms. Madison.

The author of Bring the Heat returns to Sugarland, where a firefighter from Station Five will face the dangers in risking his heart...

A near-fatal accident left firefighter/paramedic Clay Montana with devastating injuries. Now, after a year-long recovery, Clay is focused on one thing: getting his body back to form, so he can return to the job he loves. And then a chance meeting with a fiery redhead changes his life...

Detective Melissa Ryan may be the new cop on the block, but she’s no stranger to Sugarland. It’s where she lived with her violent, criminal uncle—a man she needs to see behind bars. But when she meets Clay at a crime scene, the down-but-far-from-out firefighter makes her rethink her priorities.

Getting close to Clay is intoxicating, but Melissa must keep her wits about her if she’s to protect them from a man with deadly intentions…

Marie's Thoughts

I’m going to review this book with a little What I Liked/Didn’t like, as I feel it’s probably the best way to really grasp my opinion on this story.

What I Liked

The Characters
Clay is someone that deserves his HEA. He’s sexy, sensitive, sweet and extremely charming. Not to mention the fact that he’s a firefighter (rawr!). Melissa, the female of Clay’s desire, is a down-to-earth, strong and sweet woman.

The Chemistry
Clay and Melissa had a cute and fun rapport. Their chemistry wasn’t over the top steamy, but they were definitely made for one another. From the moment they met, they knew they were made for each other.

The Story
Ms. Davis did a wonderful job of bringing Clay and Melissa together. The robbery/hero/rescuer play was brilliantly done, and made their quick-to-fall-in-love romance all the more believable.

What I Didn’t Like

The Sex
I know. This is weird. And perhaps I should clarify… I don’t mean the sex itself, I mean the language used to describe the sex. It was hokey and ridiculous most of the time, and made the sex comical instead of steamy. It was not the usual “sex talk”, and it made me uncomfortable for Clay and Melissa. To the point that I skipped over all of these scenes.

The Villain
Without giving anything away… I don’t like how the villain was almost forgotten about in the first half of the story. It bothered me that he was just mentioned as “evil”, but wasn’t given any “screen time”, as they’d say in the movies. The villain was such a pivotal part of the story, and should have been given their due.

All things aside, I really did enjoy Clay and Melissa’s story. They were a cute couple that were brought together under the perfect of circumstances. It was fun to watch them reach their happily ever after, and while there were pros and cons to this story, it is a quick, enjoyable read.

Fans of Jo Davis will enjoy Clay and Melissa’s story.

Hartwell, Delaware—the perfect place to get away from it all, and find what you never knew you needed…

Bailey Hartwell has many reasons to feel content—her successful business, a close circle of friends, and her steady boyfriend…even if their romance feels staid after ten years without a serious commitment. The only challenge in her life comes in the form of sexy businessman Vaughn Tremaine. She thinks the ex-New Yorker acts superior and that he considers her a small-town nobody. But when Bailey’s blindsided by a betrayal, she’s shocked to discover Vaughn is actually a decent guy.

Vaughn admires Bailey’s free spirit, independence, and loyalty. As his passion for her has grown, his antagonism toward her has only worsened. Every little thing Bailey does seduces him. But when Vaughn’s painful emotional past makes him walk away in fear he will hurt her, it opens an old wound in Bailey, and she uncharacteristically retreats.

Once Vaughn begins to realize he’s made the biggest mistake of his life, he has no choice but to fight like he’s never fought before to convince Bailey that the love they’ve found together only comes around once in a lifetime.

Marie's Thoughts

I’ve been a fan of Samantha Young for a while now. Every new book she puts out gets me extremely excited, and when Every Little Thing was being released, I was thrilled. This new series had me hooked with book one, and left me dying to read Bailey and Vaughn’s story.

The story started out just as I expected. Bailey was the sassy, strong-willed character I’d come to love, and Vaughn was sexy. Their banter and chemistry was perfection. But then things got… interesting. After an extremely passionate night, things went south for these two, and they became… different people than I had anticipated. Now, I know that when things happen in life, it can change a person, but both characters kind of did a 180, and it caught me off-guard to the point that it took away from the story.

Don’t get me wrong, I still enjoyed reading this book, and Ms. Young didn’t let me down. She took Bailey and Vaughn full circle, but the journey to get there left me a little distraught. I was disappointed in the fact that Bailey let a man completely destroy her, but I was happy to see her return to true form by the end of the book.

The author is a tremendous talent. She knows how to write a great romance novel. And even when she disappoints with a character that acts out of the norm, she keeps you invested in them, anxiously awaiting their redemption and their happily ever after. She writes with incredible passion and makes every intimate moment count. And while this wasn’t my favorite book she’s ever written, it’s an extremely solid story that adds a new layer of depth to her already impressive repertoire.

In New York Times bestselling author Cynthia Eden's gripping new series, a disgraced FBI profiler must save her reputation by stopping a sadistic killer she knows all too well.

Former FBI agent Samantha Dark was one of the most respected profilers in the bureau, an expert on the twisted minds and dark hearts of the most depraved criminals. But when her own former lover turned out to be the serial killer she was hunting, Samantha's career was destroyed. Blamed for the FBI's failure on the complex case, Samantha fled Washington, DC, for the quiet anonymity of Alabama.

Now an all-too-familiar killer is hunting once again. She can catch the sadistic assassin, but that means putting her trust in her former partner, Blake Gamble. Ex-military, Blake is tough, protective, precise. With her entire life on the brink, she knows he wants her back in the FBI…and possibly more.

But someone else wants her, too. A threat is waiting in the dark, a killer who has set his sights on the ultimate trophy victim—Samantha.

My Thoughts

Cynthia Eden thrills in this new and exciting series!

I absolutely loved this book! It’s got everything you need: danger, deadly intrigue, thrilling suspense and a killer so vicious, you’ll need to read it with the lights on! Samantha is a strong and tough heroine who doesn’t let a pesky thing like fear get in the way of doing her job, or anything for that matter. Blake is a sexy by-the-book detective in over his head with his current case… and his feelings for his ex-partner Samantha.

AFTER THE DARK is a brilliantly methodical thriller that will capture your attention and won’t let go until the very last page! The Cape Fear-esque storyline and meticulously crafted characters will have you begging for more! In other words, it’s f*cking awesome! I can’t wait to read the next one!

If you’re into dark and dangerous suspense books, then this one’s for you! I highly recommend AFTER THE DARK or any one of Cynthia Eden’s books!
