Review: Return to Poughkeepsie by Debra Anastasia

Beckett Taylor is a murderer. His calling, his craft are destruction and intimidation—whether he wants it that way now or not. He left Poughkeepsie to keep his brothers safe, to keep Eve safe. Set up with happy lives to live, they’re better off without him, right?

But all his willpower crumbles when he hears his brother Blake’s frantic voice on the phone. An unknown enemy has moved in on his old territory, and Livia’s been taken. In an instant, Beckett knows it will take an attack only he and Eve can execute to bring her back. All his self-imposed embargoes are torn to shreds, perhaps along with the new man he’s struggled to become.

“Brother, call Eve. I’ll be there soon.”

In this emotional and action-packed sequel to Poughkeepsie, Debra Anastasia conjures a tale of love at its most raw and ragged. With Beckett and Eve, how could we expect anything less? But even when it’s messy, not magical, true love perseveres. Real love finds a way—for better or for worse until death does part.

I loved going back to Poughkeepsie. Getting to revisit with all the characters was wonderful. I am so glad to see how Livia and Blake’s marriage, family, and love have grown. I was also heartbroken at Kyle and Cole’s struggles and continued heartbreak as they try to have a baby. Kyle struggles with guilt from past sins and Cole is her steadfast shelter of strength. I loved watching Blake and Cole become good men and wonderful husbands.

I struggled with trying to put into words the relationship between Beckett and Eve. Debra does it so well that I couldn’t even try to bring justice to the characters. I will tell you that their relationship is anything but simple. It’s “depraved and dirty”, it’s heartache and pain and very violently graphic. Love is a literal battlefield in this story. Another gut-wrenching, emotionally driven read from Debra Anastasia.

At the end of the book, readers are treated to a sneak peek at the NEXT book in the Poughkeepsie Brotherhood series. You heard me right! There is going to be ANOTHER Poughkeepsie book with all the characters we love, and some we really want to see get their asses get kicked!

If you enjoy reading about love in its purest form, then I highly recommend you check the series out. Love ain’t always pretty but it’s always triumphant!

I was gifted an eBook copy from the publisher via Net Galley in exchange for an honest review. All conclusions reached are my own.
